Becoming an internet marketing affiliate, in a nutshell, it means that, you earn extra income by marketing another person or businesses’ product or service. Affiliate marketing is extremely beneficial for business owners who would like to expose their products or services, because it provides a low-cost, or no-cost, way of advertising that can be widely distributed. If you have a business that would benefit from additional exposure (and what business cannot benefit from additional exposure?), providing an affiliate program to others may be an excellent way to diversify your business and make more money. For a person who would like be an affiliate, there are also several benefits:- you get paid to provide valuable products or services to your customers,
- you gain additional market exposure for your business by providing complementary (but non-competing) products or services,
- and it is an excellent way to generate passive income.
How can I make money as an internet marketing affiliate?
You can make money as an internet marketing affiliate in three ways: for sales you generate, for the clicks you generate into the business’ site, and/or for qualified leads. How you are paid depends on each merchant’s affiliate marketing program.- Sales You Generate: If your site generates a sale, you make a commission.
- Clicks You Generate: If a person who visits your site clicks on the link, banner or ad you place within your site, you get paid.
- Qualified Leads: Depending on the merchants’ determination of what a “qualified lead” is (for example: you would have to provide a customer that makes a certain amount of money a year, or plans on buying a car within six months), you earn money based on that person going to the merchant’s site. This is somewhat a hybrid of the two types above, because the person clicking in to the other site has to fit certain criteria (so cannot be just anyone) but the click doesn’t necessarily have to result in a sale for you to earn money.
So, what should I do if I am interested in becoming an affiliate?
- Research programs, products, services that would fit your business or internet site. Research is a must, because you want to find affiliate merchants that have excellent products, excellent reputations and that actually can sell their products.
- Register with the proper affiliate programs. Once you’ve done your research, register with the affiliate program(s) that you decide will fit best into your overall business scheme, not compete with your current business, provide value to your customers and generate income for you!
- Add links, banners, products to your site. You have to have a dedicated link on your site that identifies you to the merchant as the one who generated the sale, the lead, or the click…otherwise you won’t get the credit. Be sure to add the links, banners or products in places in your site that will generate the most income. Think: is this a logical place in my site for someone to be interested in this product or service? Could I place this advertisement in multiple places? Can I place it in such a way that it is helpful my customers—not just annoying, or a clear sales pitch?
- Earn money from your ads. Now that you have placed the ads in relevant sections of your website, get the click, the sale, the lead—and earn extra income!
